Tip 1: Build accurate listings

So, what is an accurate listing?

Sounds far more complicated than it is, in simple terms it is the way your business details (phone number, address, company name etc.) are displayed on directory listings, social media and anywhere else online.

This is one of the simplest tasks to complete, and according to well respected SEO experts they are one of the most important factors to local SEO. In other words, if you don’t implement this you probably won’t be one of the top dogs.

Lots of websites use listings of a source of information, so it is important you have a sufficient number of listings to be found. Also, they need to be accurate and constant.

Out of date or incorrect information will make a negative effect of your listings.

For small businesses this is easily implemented manually. Below is a list of our recommended sites:

facebook.com

directory.independent.co.uk

foursquare.com

directory.thesun.co.uk

yelp.co.uk

tupalo.com

brownbook.net

infobel.com

showmelocal.com

192.com

lacartes.com

scoot.co.uk

cylexuk.co.uk

kompass.com

It is essential that you NAP (Name, Address, Phone Number) is consistent on every listing.

For example, UKSOC’s listing would appear like this:

UKSOCdesign
Blue Tower,
Media City UK,
Salford.
M50 2ST

Tel: 07368 392 650

It’s vital to ensure that your NAP is entered consistently on every site. You should aim to build a mix of citations from local sources, industry sites, and general directories.
